As any avid reader of Gigslutz may already be aware, we’re huge fans of The Orielles here. We named them as Ones To Watch In 2016, have included them as a ‘Track Of The Week’ more than once, and have been wowed by their live shows on a number of occasions. So, it was with plenty of excitement to hear on Marc Riley’s BBC 6 Music show last week that they were releasing a brand new song.
‘Sugar Tastes Like Salt’ is a truly epic creation. Apparently referencing Tarantino’s ‘Deathproof’ – “Well, ain’t you so sweet that you make sugar taste just like salt!” – the track speeds and slows, creating a majestic, sweeping soundscape that could easily feature on the soundtrack of one of Quentin’s films itself.
Racing with pounding beats, scuzzy hooks, jangly melodies and woozy vocals, Sid, Esmé and Henry show they’re capable of greatness with this latest dreamy offering. At just over eight minutes long, it truly is an anthem in every sense of the word. An anthem heralding the arrival of The Orielles into the ears of masses.
The band’s first release on Heavenly Recordings, ‘Sugar Tastes Like Salt’ is a magnificent, clattering cacophony; a frenzied fusion of sounds that takes you on a musical adventure into the minds of its creators.
‘Sugar Tastes Like Salt’ is out now on Heavenly Recordings. Catch The Orielles live (you really should) throughout April:
