New Track: The Repeat Offenders – ‘She’s A Mystery’

Full of mod swagger and Britpop bravado, Northampton chaps The Repeat Offenders may have read the lad-rock guide book down to the last chapter on ‘How to wear your anorak like Ian Brown’, but their triumph is that the deliver it all with more punch, strut and heart than most gangs of mini Noels and Liams. Championed by Andy Bell, they’ve steadily built up a following thanks to support slots with Cast, Proud Mary and The Rifles and now look fully formed, well coiffured and ready to take their place alongside the likes The Courteeners as saviours in the fight to rekindle the lost art of the indie guitar anthem.

Bringing together jangly melodies, spikey energy and mad-fer-it, football terrace exuberance, new single ‘She’s A Mystery’ should certainly help the cause. Recorded at Paul Weller’s Black Barn studio, it’s an ode to the enigma of the opposite sex that channels the Modfather at his most frantic and soundtracks a lager soaked bout of Saturday night tail chasing. It’s a fun, two-minute, bounce-along rush that should set the band up nicely for a breakthrough summer.
