Thunderous and riff-tastic, Sun Circus have somewhat changed tack on their new single ‘We Went to War’, and the approach has thoroughly paid off.

Having offered a softer, more melodic effort on previous single, ‘Got That Feeling’, the four-piece have adopted a heavier sound, echoing the likes of Royal Blood with their latest effort. However, that’s not to suggest the melody has disappeared, but rather the catchy vocal is instead driven by a more obviously gritty, dirtier guitar.

The defining moment of ‘We Went To War’ undoubtedly arrises when everything is suddenly stripped back, leaving space for a sumptuous bass groove, which in turn paves the way for the rest of the tune to explode, like a boxer choosing to duck and weave before launching their haymaker.

Such a finale, coupled with their progression from first to second single – released only a few months apart – suggest Sun Circus are certainly worth keeping an eye out for.
