No Thoughts No Gravity LIVE @ Dublin Castle, Camden 24.11.2013

There’s something about No Thoughts No Gravity that is truly comforting on an early Sunday evening in Camden Town. The weekend might be slowly fading away and the weather is damp and grey, however their intimate and reassuring gig makes everyone feel at ease. No Thoughts No Gravity is quite a recent band formed in 2011 by guitarist/ songwriter Phil Hudson, singer Justyna Salamon and drummer David Hippel. How to describe their music? Have fun with all the possible adjectives, this is hard job. It’s neither indie nor folk in spite of their trademark acoustic guitar. And the label ‘dreamy pop’ seems far too easy when the singer is a pretty female voice.

Singer Justyna is both dramatic on ‘Love is Easy’ and funny when failing to hide her amazement in front of a big crowd. Over the weekend, a few of her Polish friends have travelled to London to support No Thoughts No Gravity on their biggest and most important live show to date. Surely a little bit of sentimentalism is acceptable, isn’t it? After twenty minutes of old songs and a couple of jokes to the audience, No Thoughts No Gravity introduce for the first time brand new tracks ‘Night Taxi Boy’ and ‘Another Universe’. Basically straight from their Mill Hill recording studio, these acoustic gems work so well that they could be already featured in John Kennedy’s late night XFM Exposure.

After my mad Friday Night/Saturday Morning spent with Skrillex and all the other fellow ravers, it’s good to be back to reality. No Thoughts No Gravity is one of the most accessible and down to earth bands you can find both in North London and in the music business. I’m sure we will hear more from them next year. As far as I’m concerned, it’s been great to say goodbye to the weekend in such a great style.
