Ones To Watch: SHEAFS

Sheffield is one of the UK’s most cherished musical cities, and rightly so with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Richard Hawley, Millburn and Reverend and The Makers all hailing from the industrial landscape – of course I could continue with the list, but we’d be here all day.

Everyone knows Sheffield is rich with talent and that’s all that needs to be said. Constantly churning out this new talent, five-piece SHEAFS are hoping to get in on some of the action. Recently, they released their latest single, ‘Punchline’.

The track begins with a groove ridden riff that will have you toe-tapping within seconds; straight away it becomes apparent that the ‘Sheffield sound’ is well drilled into these boys – a fiery sense of grit and attitude fuels the track straight from the off. The verses nod appreciatively to the likes of the already mentioned Millburn, before erupting into the thunderous chorus, continuing the track into the direction that would leave you assuming the band have been writing tracks for years.

‘Punchline’ is professionally sublime, at no point does it appear that SHEAFS are a band that are only just starting out. If one thing is for certain, it’s that these lads are no amateurs. Yes it’s been done before, but does that matter? No. Now is the right time for someone to come along and do it again, and SHEAFS are that band that have taken it upon themselves to ensure that Sheffield keeps on moving in the musical direction of greatness.

‘Punchline’ has already been showcased on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sheffield, so it’s safe to assume the boys are already heading in the right direction.

‘Punchline’ is out now.
