Ones To Watch: Bugeye

Even the most adored bands can struggle with returning to music: reformations aren’t always greeted with the desired response and can often sound forced and tired. Yet this isn’t your average reformation: after initially forming in the ’90s, Bugeye’s return to music has done nothing but wonders for them.

With the ’90s seeing Bugeye support The Cranberries at Wembley, and take over the indie disco dance floors of London, it’s clear that the band just weren’t quite done yet. Whatever it was that drew them back together obviously knew how much more the band had to give.

After returning to the live scene, the band have now shared ‘Disco Dancer’ – due to be released as a free download. It’s not tricky to pin down what makes this return to music so successful; aside from the obvious – the band’s unwavering energy and talent – Bugeye strike the balance perfectly between throwback and contemporary.

With unapologetic Riot Grrrl influences, snarling vocals and enormous end results, ‘Disco Dancer’ is the first taste of what’s to come from the reformed and revitalised Bugeye.

Never Let You Go, the new EP from Bugeye, is out 8 July via Repeat Records/Badger Recording Co.
