Ones To Watch: Corbu

I’m often astounded by the massive sound a duo can make. Not massive in the loud sense, necessarily – not like Royal Blood or Slaves – but rather in the way of the sheer depth of the sound. New York duo Corbu manage to do exactly that; they create multi-layered, dreamy synth-pop with depth and colour far beyond anything I could fathom being possible.

With their self-produced debut on the way, mixed by Dave Friddman, now’s the perfect time to get acquainted with Corbu. Though their sound is ultimately electronic, their psych influences allow for a little glimmer of a heavier, indie-influenced sound to shine through. It’s dreamy, but not to the point of losing focus; though the steady beats and vocals of single ‘Polygon Forest’ are without a doubt hypnotic there’s something – perhaps the desire to focus on the track – that keeps the listener grounded.

Seemingly incomparable to anything else at the moment, Corbu should be on everyone’s ones to watch list.

Corbu’s debut album, Crayon Soul, is set for release 5 August.
