Ones To Watch: The Gravity Drive

Despite being based in my beloved Bridport, that is not the reason why The Gravity Drive have caught my attention; their twinkly, ethereal pop alone is sufficiently alluring. And, it seems, I’m not the only one to be charmed by this West Country husband/wife duo: having been receiving praise a plenty from Radio 2’s Janice Long, 6Music’s Chris Hawkins and Tom Robinson, and having just featured on Lauren Laverne’s  ‘Biorhythms’ feature, the future for The Gravity Drive is looking as bright as their charming creations sound.

Following their last single, ‘Fun’, ‘Cherry Ripe’ is a grittier, more intense offering, though manages to retain all the effervescent melodies and perfectly fitting harmonies between Ava and Elijah that we first fell in love with. As the impassioned, climactic refrain of “ticking like a time bomb” sweeps across characteristically charming melodies, you are left expecting a welcome explosion of neon colour and glistening sparks as the track comes to a powerfully abrupt end.

‘Cherry Ripe’ may be less sunny than previous material, but it proves equally as alluring in all its sparkling glory.

The single is released alongside The Gravity Drive’s debut album, Testament, on 10th November.  A creation that will no doubt transport you to the idyllic, sun-soaked climes from whence it came.
