Ones To Watch: Jessica Hernandez And The Deltas

Historically, Detroit has produced many memorable musicians and musical movements, and now the motor city has given to the world another musical offspring that is destined to follow in the city’s famous musical footsteps.

Jessica Hernandez and The Deltas are seriously ones to watch. With lyrics full of sass and attitude and a backing band on full throttle that has all the power of the fastest motor car – the sound of this band purrs like a well-tuned engine.

Musically, Jessica Hernandez and The Deltas remind me off all the good points of Ohio rockers, The Black Keys: strong guitars, big heavy drums and a sound that’s gritty, greasy and – most importantly – groovy.

Backing band The Deltas are an important part of this powerful combination, but what holds the sound altogether is front woman Jessica Hernandez. Having all the qualities of a formidable lead singer and band leader, Hernandez’s sound is reminiscent of the likes of Paloma Faith, Imelda May and even Janis Joplin which, of course, is no bad thing.

Having had a great deal of success in the US, highlighted by an amazing performance on Letterman, it’s time they Hernandez and co. travelled across the pond to our fair shores. Jessica and the band are releasing for the fist time in the UK soon and will follow up their release with a European tour and some UK headlines dates. So keep your eyes peeled!
