Ones To Watch: The Lucid Dream

With one album behind them and a couple of singles, The Lucid Dream are bringing a larger, more chilling sound with them for their second record and new single, ‘Cold Killer’.

Having formed eight years ago in Cumbria, the quartet show a promising second LP with psychedelic keys backing a lead of swirling, looping guitars that flow smoothly through a story being told. With their music being described as “epic material”, The Lucid Dream manage to create a wall of sound that builds higher and higher with every single, resulting in a strong base for the band to expand from.

If you have been to festivals such as Kendal Calling or The Big Chill, chances are you may have come across the band on a wander, or if you’re fans of The Verve or Sonic Youth – two bands The Lucid Dream hold comparison to. With this second record, expect to see them on more festival stages and touring the UK extensively, plus a headline European tour.

March 30th reveals the self-titled sophomore album from the band as they journey on to a more experimental, wide-ranged LP that explores the use of their instruments and supporting equipment more than before. There’s a higher sense of pride and a more open approach to what they can achieve, and that becomes clear. Although the singles can stand for themselves in a strong, supportive manner, it’s the record that shows a fierce nature as a whole. Listen from start to end and you will be blown away by the power and force of a carefully-crafted release.
