Ones To Watch: MRCH

Distance can be an issue for bands when they’re trying to record or promote a record. Geographically, it’s desirable for each member to live in the same town, preferably a stone’s throw away. But when two thirds of your band live in Phoenix and one third in Sacramento (approximately 755 miles apart), it takes guts and perseverance to get things going. Fortunately, electronic indie trio MRCH have both these qualities.

By file sharing their recordings on Ableton, the band have put together a string of songs which blend “Soaring, surging synths” and “sighing, sibilant singing” (The Guardian). Described as a combination of Chvrches and Purity Ring, MRCH are in excellent electronic company, sharing similarities with each outfit without being overshadowed by the success of their peers.

New track ‘Spin’ is a shining example of the band’s ability to craft rippling, all encompassing, sweet electronic sound. Synthesisers zigzag over melodic guitar, as breathy vocals smooth over the jagged edges of this whirling, wonderful song. ‘Validation’ and ‘Highway Drivin’ are also stellar supplements to MRCH’s ever-growing electronic catalogue, and well worth lending your ears to.
