Ones to watch: The Mynabirds

Everything you need to know about The Mynabirds can be summed up by the Jack Kerouac quote that inspired their third album. As the quote goes:

“The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars.”  

And they certainly do justice to the quote – not just in the third album, but as a whole. In their work, The Mynabirds – brainchild of Laura Burhenn – have truly spanned the genres. Whilst keeping the grit (the desire for which led Burhenn to starting the band), The Mynabirds have graced ears with everything from pop to garage rock, tinkering at times on the edges of soul and folk. It’s the kind of music that could become almost sappy, but Burhenn’s dedication to the gritty undertones ensures the music stays suitably cool.

With their latest album, the band explore influences of 80s, 90s and futuristic soundscapes, proving their versatility yet again. Tracks like single, ‘Wildfire’, are no doubt set to be summer anthems – this is one bandwagon you should definitely be jumping on right now.
