One To Watch: Nadia Nair

Nadia Nair – a singer-songwriter of half Swedish, half Malaysian-Indian descent – began her career with debut single ‘Bon Voyage; a gritty, mood-filled piece which was a great kick start to what looks like a career with many prospects.

Ever since embarking into the music market, she has developed as a singer and artist, producing music alongside the progressive and electro house DJ and producer, Deniz Koyu. This collaboration was released on Swedish House Mafia’s very own Axwell’s label Axetone.

Nair has found tracks such as ‘Beautiful Poetry’ receiving airtime on the Swedish national radio P3. As well as this, her tracks have begun to gain attention from the UK’s very own Radio 1.

Nair’s newest single, ‘Hardships’, provides you with the true power of her vocals. Her mainly vocal dominated mix is often stripped back to bare components, allowing the track to be built up and layered with powerful low sub bass lines and huge vocal harmonies, all spread across a spacious and authoritative sonic platter.

Although the track is mainly built around Western fundamental components, it shows subtle yet clear multicultural references, with Indian Tabla drums beating away, coated in flowering essences of Far Eastern melodic elements. This gives a vast adaptation to the usual western pop song that listeners are used to hearing.

Make sure you keep an eye out for this lady; with many feathers already to her hat, don’t miss out on a new and unique artist. Nadia Nair’s work sure looks to be shaping up to something spectacular!

‘Hardships’ goes on sale and can be downloaded on the 28 August.
