Ones To Watch: The Rising

Having played The Cavern Club and The Isle Of Wight festival, The Rising are releasing a brand new double A side single.

Following their fast-selling first album, Olympus is an exciting new offering from this 7 piece Southampton piece, oozing a ‘best of’ amalgamation of 60s groove and 90s Britpop, with heaps of individuality and a dash of psychedelia.

Oasis immediately spring to mind throughout the track; though quirkily different to Liam Gallagher’s, the grittily raw vocals have a strong presence throughout the track. In fact, McGee himself has said The Rising are a great band!

Towards the end of ‘Olympus’ is a slow tempo guitar sequence which is soothingly brilliant, contrasting with the earthy vocals of Tommy Overington. These, alongside the catchiness of the chorus, create a convincing sound that could have been released back in the ’90s.

Starting on a heavier note than ‘Olympus’, other track ‘I Want You’ has a busier instrumental with the entirety of the band showcasing their talents. Twisting their sound into synthesised tones mixed with rock, their capability is proved to be ultimately sky high.

Recorded at the world famous Rockfield Studios by Tim Lewis, it’s safe to say The Rising really are rising. We’re ready for their 2017 album already.

The double A side ‘Olympus’/’I Want You’ is out 4 November, buy one of the 250 7″ vinyl presses  here.
