Ones To Watch: Vomitface

The charmingly named Vomitface erupted from a New Jersey home during a torrential onslaught. Through the relentless grasps of Hurricane Sandy, Jared Micah and Preetma Singh (Vocals/Guitar, Drums) found themselves conjuring up a storm within a storm, thus Vomitface was born.

Both Micah and Singh were absorbed by Hurricane Sandy and they absorbed the nature of the beast into their music, leading to a flurry of attention as they found their way. Now the band are gearing up to release their debut LP, and now have shared their latest single, ‘Chew Toy’.

‘Chew Toy’ is drenched with a fuzzy drudge that pulls you in and leaves you drowning in its thickness. Satire is rife as Micah sarcastically proclaims “Hooray For Me”, before erupting into a sheer outburst of raw emotion as he screams it again. The track, alongside the LP, was moulded by renowned producer (as well as many other talents) Steve Albini, who’s famed for working with the likes of Nirvana, Pixies, The Stooges and The Cribs, to name but a few.

Vomitface recorded the track and LP in mostly single takes, and that allows it to be as honest as possible. ‘Chew Toy’ is beautifully imperfect, with blemishes that make it an ironically refreshing offering found within a pool of over-produced, sugar-coated shit droppings – which take up too much of the modern industry.

Vomitface may slur some questionable reactions from those who hear them – fitting the cliché of ‘we are afraid of what we don’t know’ – but you should definitely get to know Vomitface. They are more than worthy of our attention.

Hooray For Me, the new album from Vomitface, is out 26 August.
