Ahead of his DJ set at next months ‘Definitley Maybe’ 20th anniversary celebration evening we caught up with official Oasis tour DJ Phil Smith for a quick natter and to get a playlist of some of his favourite tracks

GS: Hello Phil… How did you first meet the band?
PS: I first met Noel in the late ‘80s around Manchester. He worked for The [Inspiral] Carpets and I worked for the [Stone] Roses so we were always at the same gigs etc…
GS: What is your favourite Oasis album?
PS: ‘Be Here Now’ for the madness at the time
GS: What is your favourite Oasis track?
PS: Supersonic. The night they recorded it was the moment you knew it was gonna really take off. Best debut single since ‘Teenage Kicks’
GS: What is your funniest memory you have of touring with the band?
PS: Anything involving Bonehead
GS: You toured with The Stone Roses too – what were the differences between a Roses / Oasis tour?
PS: The volume. Oasis was turned up to 11 at all times.
GS: Would you like to see the band back together / think its better left as it is?
PS: Que sera sera. It’s their band so whatever they want to do they can do as far as I’m concerned.
GS: Have you heard anything of Noel’s new stuff? If so, what is it like?
PS: Only the odd riff really when popping into the studio. The only full song I heard was sounding mega.
GS: You had a lot of stuff at the Definitely Maybe exhibition – did you think it was a good event? Can we expect a northern event?
PS: I think it must be one of the most photographed living-rooms in recent history now. Heard there might be another up North but nothing definite as yet…
GS: What can we expect from the Definitely Maybe celebration night at The Scala?
PS: Happiness and music. And a chance to see more of my tour photos from back in the day which have never been seen in public before.
