Premiere: River Matthews shares acoustic performance of ‘Stars’

Following a support slot with Rag’n’Bone Man on his sold-out tour, and ahead of the release of his 2017 EP Sunshine, River Matthews is sharing an astonishing acoustic version of his latest single, ‘Stars.’

Between learning classical guitar at the age of 7, to an interest in The Beach Boys, Cat Stevens, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones stemming from his parents, River’s musical education ultimately led here – a heart-wrenching emotional folkiness drifting somewhere between Jeff Buckley and Hozier. A sound which lends itself beautifully to such acoustic performances.

With ‘Stars’ written during an overnight stay in Inverness spent watching the ‘Stars,’ it blends this almost ethereal emotion something much closer to home. With River having spent time as a musical therapy teacher, ‘Stars’ explores this raw emotion and pain – and it’s wonderful.

Sunshine is available on 26 May. River Matthews plays The Great Escape this weekend as well as a number of other dates throughout the summer.
