PREMIERE: Zibra share ‘Ru$$ Remix’ of ‘Paris’ & exclusive interview

From headlining the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury to support slots with Years and Years, 2015 has been a great year for London outfit ZIBRA. The band exploded onto the dancefloors with their electrifying brand of glitch indie last year and have followed up the buzz with their new track ‘Paris’ which was released via Epic records earlier this month.  Gigslutz are today pleased to premiere with you the stonking ‘Ru$$ Remix’ of the track. Scroll down to check it out at the bottom of the page…

With the band heading off on tour with Rat Boy today, we caught up with the band to find out whats going down in the Zibra camp…

Hello guys how are you today and where can we find you answering these
questions?

Currently on the underground on the ready salted line heading over to the salt and vinegar line.

You’re about to release your new single ‘Paris’. Can you tell us a bit
about the song?

Paris is a song about city life kind of sucking. I’ve only been to Paris once, it was nice but not for me. People get so caught up in this city world. Like sitting here on this carriage with loads of people where it’s a bit of a crime to make eye contact. Crazy world hey.

The video sees you riding about in the digger of a tractor. Who’s idea was that?!

Russ had the idea of offices and having it pretty bleak, but ever since I was a child I always loved tractors so we had to add tractors. It’s like a present to my 5 year old self .

You’ve recently been endorsed by Donetella Versace and played at launch of the new collection. How did that come about?

I guess she heard our stuff and oddly enough liked it to the point that she was in the front row singing all the words. It was all very surreal.

Your music is very eclectic what were your influences?

From all over the place, a lot of 80/90’s Pop music we have all heard in our parents car. The good stuff, trying to bring all those things that have been part of our brain development and put it into a modern world with modern things.

You’ve been getting some great publicity lately and you’ve been play listed on Radio 1 which is huge. How far do you think you can take this as a band? What are your ambitions?

I don’t know how far we can take it but I’d like to think we can take it to the top of the pyramid stage and then say we are the biggest rock stars like Kanye and see people scrunch their faces up and wish for our sake we never said that.

You’re about to go on the road with Rat Boy, how are you looking forward to that?

We are looking forward to it it’s going to be a crazy tour. We’ve got to get the skateboards out of the shed and give those tail bones a run for their money

You’ve done a lot of festivals this summer what was your highlight?

All of the shows this summer have been great. Wish I wore more sun cream spf50 and all that. Glastonbury was amazing and we have the BBC introducing team to thank for inviting is to headline the Sunday.

You’ve been gigging relentlessly this year do you have a particular stand out show which you have done?

Pretty much the above question. We’ve seen a lot of support from fans and even haters. So hopefully each pile will increase as the year goes on. Touring with Years & Years, Sunset Sons and Coasts were all great shows too.

Are there any plans afoot for a full length album?

Yeah we’re working on it now. It’s been in the pipeline since we started doing this and it’s coming along like a slow cooked stew with ingredients from the reduced aisle of Tesco, your always surprised what you can do without being all flash and all that.

What would your desert island disc be?

Well I guess it would have to be a vinyl because fashioning a digital converter to play a cd from coconuts and leaves would be pretty hard. But for me it would be Elvis Costello’s ‘This Years Model’ with some 90’s acid tunes etched into the back.

Is there anything else you¹d like to add?

If you know anyone who is wanting to get rid of a linn drum, Please get them to contact me.
