PREVIEW: Kendal Calling Festival – 10 acts to catch

Gigslutz are off to one of the North’s best festivals this weekend; Kendal Calling. With a guaranteed fantastic atmosphere, and hopefully weather to match – who should you cherry pick from the line up to see? We’ve picked 10 bands/artists that we think you should check out to make your weekend top.

The Bohicas
Ready to make the big time with the release of their debut album later this summer, The Bohicas are set to carry on their festival season with an appearance at Kendal. After the success of single ‘Where You At’ and more recently ‘Swarm’ they’re a band who have lived up to the expectations of their advocates.

Hudson Taylor
Since becoming a word of mouth sensation, folk duo Hudson Taylor have gone from busking on the streets of Dublin to releasing their incredibly successful debut album this Spring. Their energetic live performances and heartfelt slower tunes are perfect for a festival evening.

Judas
No festival is complete without some furious stadium rock, and this is why Judas are the perfect addition to this years Kendal Calling line up. Although collectively being a band in its infancy, Judas are well on their way to perfecting their stage craft and have become a firm favourite here at Gigslutz.

Lucy Rose
Haling from Warwickshire, singer/songwriter Lucy Rose will be bringing a more relaxed vibe to the weekend’s proceedings. This month has seen her release of her brand new album, which will no doubt feature prominently in her set at the festival.

Lisbon
With tunes that are laden with captivating choruses, alt-pop four piece Lisbon are continuing their summer shows at Kendal this year. With the release of their brand new EP Life Is Good ready to surface on 8th August, expect to hear a set filled with new tunes. Having previously been compared to Foals and Little Comets, Lisbon seem to be a perfect booking for a picturesque festival.

Louis Berry
Championed by Radio 1, Liverpool-born songwriter Louis Berry takes to the stage at Kendal Calling as part of a very busy festival season. Since releasing track ’25 Reasons’ he has gained wide spread support from well-established industry giants and rightfully so.

Sugarmen
Another pick from Liverpool comes in the form of energetic four-piece Sugarmen. Their upbeat and punky tunes will definitely get the fields dancing and seeing as they are a band know for their electrifying liver performances, are gained to win over a few new fans in the process. Having supported The Strypes earlier this year as well as featuring at British Summer time at Hyde Park, they’re a band picking up steam.

Kate Tempest
Published poet, novelist, playwright and of course and incredibly talented musician, Kate Tempest is one of the most exciting artists performing this weekend. Her talent of crossing boundaries between creative genres has seen her win countless awards for her work and here at Gigslutz, we are very intrigued to see what she brings to the festival stage.

Neon Waltz
Psychedelic 6-piece Neon Waltz will be bringing a burst of alternative indie rock to this year’s festival proceedings. They’re sun-drenched and melodic tunes will drown the crowds in sunlight and blow any grey clouds away.

Sunset Sons
2015 has seen Sunset Sons go from strength to strength. The indie rock band were shortlisted for the “BBC Sound Of” list as well as being named by MTV as one of their tipped artists of the year. So far this summer the band have played with Noel Gallagher at Clapham Calling and played a storming set at Glastonbury. They are destined for great things.
