PREVIEW: Strawberry Fields Festival

When – 8th– 10th August

Where – Cattows Farm, Leicestershire

It doesn’t take a genius to see that small festivals have been on the rise over recent years, and Strawberry Fields Festival provides us with clear evidence why. Celebrating it’s 5th birthday this year, SFF is throwing some party indeed.

Many an established artist has graced the SFF stages during it’s four years of age so far, including the likes of Example, The Enemy, The Charlatans, Rizzle Kicks and The View just to name a few, and this year that list goes on, with Reverend And The Makers, Dj Yoda, Goldie Lookin Chain holding the privilege of headliners this year, being accompanied by other acts such as the likes of The Rifles, locally loved Twisted Wheel, The Twang, and newly on the scene, Trampolene, might I recommend.

Strawberry Fields Festival, being situated in the heart of Leicester’s National Forest, offers a unique and unmissable experience for all festival lovers and is even a perfect first- step for first time festivalgoers.

Who to see at Strawberry Fields Festival 2014:

Reverend And The Makers

‘Reverend’ Jon Mclure and co, are widely known for their vibrant gigs and relentless atmosphere to accompany them. Coming off the back of their 2014 U.K tour (famously ending with performances from Jon outside- not something you see every day), they appear to be doing a festival run, and this has been gracefully received by the followers of Reverend. After catching the band at Manchester Ritz back in March, for the third time seeing the band and the second time at the Ritz, I was once again not only reassured the band were brutally alive but simply blown away. After a series of strange but genius house gigs performed by the Rev, it is clear to all that he and the band are genuine, and so is their music. Following the release of their fourth studio album ‘ThirtyTwo’, which continues Reverend’s legacy after the brilliance of the first three albums, with debut album ‘The State Of Things’ still going strong, and rightly so the band are still beaming and full of life, and this doesn’t appear to be dimming anytime soon. So if you’re heading to SFF this August, you cannot, for whatever reason, miss your Saturday headliners.

Trampolene

Newly on the scene, it is clear to all that Trampolene are taking the world of music by the balls, and are moving forward with force.

After hearing Trampolene for the first time on XFM, I just couldn’t get enough, I was hungry for more, searching and searching for more of this innovatively exhilarating band and every time I hear a Trampolene song, I am possessed by energy I never knew I had, and I cannot even begin to imagine what this energy will be like hearing it live. Listen to songs such as ‘Alchohol Kisses’ and ‘Camden Mannequins’ and you’ll get exactly what I mean.

If you’re after electricity, make sure you catch Trampolene at the Strawberry Jam Stage on Sunday afternoon. You wont regret it.

Dexters

The problem is with much of todays music is simply that it all sounds the same. Dexters are stepping out and making as change to this. Adding somewhat a revival to the modern music scene, following the release of their debut album ‘Shimmer Gold’ they’re out and about and you need to catch a glimpse of these guys. With high voltage guitars, thunderous drums and vocals to accompany, Dexters sure do put on a show. Take your chance and catch them on the Main Stage Saturday afternoon, and thank me later.

Recommended track – ‘Start To Run’

The Struts

Also new on the seen, and as part of their 2014 tour, The Struts are also entering the world of music with brute force. Offering every listeners ears with a sense of new enlightenment, The Struts bring about a fresh feel to Rock ‘n’ Roll and they will no doubt be rocking SFF come August.

Recommended track – ‘Kiss This’

Twisted Wheel

Anyone who is who loves music knows of Twisted Wheel, and lucky for some, they’re at SFF! After excelling in smaller venues such as Manchester’s Gorilla earlier this year, Strawberry Fields Festival is going to go wild when Wheel set foot on the stage. Full on energy and attitude, Twisted Wheel will blow you away, and that’s a promise.

Recommended track – ‘Lucy the Castle’

By no means does this disregard any of the other acts performing Strawberry Fields Festival over the weekend, with many, many other bands performing and satisfying your musical needs.

Also look out for: The Rifles, Catfish And The Bottlemen, The Family Rain, The Twang, Jaws and Eliza and the Bear just to mention a few.

Strawberry Fields Festival is nothing but a gem when it comes to music festivals, offering a different experience in terms of size, with modern day titans giving it the volume to challenge that of Glastonbury. If you love your festivals, be sure to check out Strawberry Fields.
