REVIEW: Leah Weller new album Freedom

The defining vocal beauty and song writing expertise of Leah Weller has been skillfully captured on her astonishing new longer player Freedom released via Modern Sky UK.

If you’ve been a fan of her old man, Paul, his audiences have been treated to glimpses of the soul songstress when Leah provided liquid vocals in sold out live arenas, more recently Leah assisted in the writing of Paul’s single Shades Of Blue. These little cameos appear to have given Leah the wings to establish her own career and boy is the music world a better place for this timely addition.

Freedom is a soul pop classic in a similar vein as Kafunta, Dusty In Memphis and Diamon Life. Steve Cradock who produced, co wrote and laid down his unmistakable guitar chops on the album adds a sprinkling of magic throughout. Opening with Freedom and Wonder these tracks bring an essence of all round breathtaking musicianship to the table, similar high praise can be said of Dive In, Summer At Last and the closing delicate ballad Butterflies.

The 12 tracks that appear on the album are a real breath of fresh air. Leah has a voice as clear, pure, and flowing as her mother, Dee C Lee, taking flight with an album of quality beyond her years. Freedom is a strong contender for soul album of the year.
