New Track: TVAM – ‘No Explanations’

One man, his guitar, an electric drum machine and a TV make up new Manchester outfit TVAM. Debut single, ‘No Explanations’, is a two and a half minute surf punk explosion of chugging guitars and frenzied snare hits.

Opening with a swirling guitar trying to find a foothold in the song – along with a ceaseless snare – it soon transcends into its instantly iconic, chugging guitar. Joe Oxley’s sludgy melodies break out into a punk-heavy riff , giving the listener a taste for the much anticipated chorus. Powering back into the verse, we are met by distorted vocals that grab us by the hand and lead us further into the song.

When playing live, Oxley sets up a TV and plays “technicolour trash”, a collage of messy footage from charity shop VHS finds. The clips are seemingly in sync with the tempo of the electric drum machine, making the show a rather outlandish experience, as opposed to an average gig.

Drawing influences from Thee Oh Sees and Boards of Canada, the song finishes on an energetic chorus that completely swamps the listener with raw guitars and forceful refrains.

TVAM have added a new dimension to the recent revival in guitar-and-drum rock and, after being well received in the North-West, it is only a matter of time before the same happens nationwide.

‘No Explanations’ is out now.
