Strawberry Fields Festival Spotlight: EUGENE MCGUINNESS

With an unmistakable essence of coolness and style surrounding him, with catchy riffs and sharp vocals, Eugene McGuinness is grooving through this world of music and leaving his name on people’s lips, wherever he goes. Following the release of his latest album ‘Chroma’, we caught up with McGuinness to gain another insight into just how artists experience festivals in our latest feature (it seems no human is designed to pitch a tent)– learning about his influences, essentials, dream line-up and just what we he’s got in store for us at Strawberry Fields.

GS: Hi Eugene firstly, What are your festival essentials?

McGuinness: A bus, a band and an invitation to play there. The bus is key. Tents eat me alive.

GS: Us too. What are you looking forward to about SFF?

McGuinness: Just to play, for people to hear the new ‘Chroma’ songs and enjoy ourselves. It’s great to play the This Feeling stage, those guys have always championed me and I appreciate the love.

GS: Top bunch indeed. What’s your dream festival line-up?

McGuinness: The La’s, Morrissey, Iggy Pop and David Bowie (probably together), Roots Manuva, California Dreams, Blue Bread, Alan Hansen, Craig from Big Brother, The Bohicas and Frankie Grimelips.

GS: I’d buy a ticket for that! What is the best/worst thing to ever happen at a festival?

McGuinness: Watching Jay Z go on at Glastonbury and ripping Noel was pretty golden. Worst thing that happened to me was probably my first Glasto when I was 20, I bought a tent in a WHSmith on the way there. Was never a cub scout. The tent was more of a pencil case. Bring a bus.

GS: Noted. And finally – what can we expect from you at Strawberry Fields?

McGuinness: A whirlwind rattle through some of my catalogue interjected with incoherent rambling buffoonery and probably a few McCartney thumbs ups.

You can catch the innovatively brilliant Eugene McGuinness play the ‘This Feeling’ stage at Strawberry Fields Festival, Sunday August 10th and it must be said, that stage is looking the place to be at SFF.
