This is Tomorrow Festival Set for North East Return

Having witnessed over 30,000 outdoor live music fans descending on Newcastle’s Exhibition Park last summer, organisers have today confirmed the welcome return of the celebrated festival – This is Tomorrow – in 2020.

This Is Tomorrow will return to Newcastle’s Exhibition Park for the second time on the 22nd to 24th May and the region’s new flagship gathering will once again play host to stellar names over the summer weekend, which saw Welsh rockers Stereophonics and ex-Oasis star Noel Gallagher headline in 2019.

With the promise that it will bring its most entertaining and diverse line-up yet, promoters SSD Concerts are giving festival-loving fans the chance to snap up discounted early bird weekend tickets, which will go on sale this Friday 25th October, from 10 am, BST.

Speaking ahead of today’s announcement, Steve Davis, Managing Director of SSD Concerts, said: We’re delighted with how This Is Tomorrow 2020 is looking and are confident of next year’s event selling out in advance. We have some huge artists confirmed and some new areas which are currently in the process of being added to the event which will add to the customer experience massively.

I’d like to thank Urban Green Newcastle, Newcastle City Council and The Freemen of the City for their “can do approach” and being supportive in the planning phase of the 2020 event.

Earlybirds give a chance to see one of the best festival line-ups in the UK at a really competitive price, so I’d urge people to guarantee their ticket to one of the region’s biggest summer events.”

Councilor Ged Bell, cabinet member for employment and culture, continues: “I am thrilled that This is Tomorrow is returning to Newcastle, bringing yet another high-profile event to our city’s calendar.

Exhibition Park is a brilliant location for events, it is an adaptable space in the heart of our city centre, meaning music fans can benefit from a cracking festival atmosphere and make the most of our world-famous night life.

This is an opportunity for local music lovers to see some of the biggest acts in the world, alongside emerging local talent, right here on their doorstop, without having to consider travel and accommodation plans on top of the ticket price.

“I am looking forward to seeing which huge name acts will line up to entertain the Geordie crowds and visitors to the city and would like to thank SSD Concerts and Urban Green Newcastle for their strong partnership approach to delivering these events.”

James Cross, Chief Executive of Urban Green Newcastle – the independent charity responsible for the management, development and protection of Newcastle’s parks and allotments – adds: “Our parks are open to everyone so we’re delighted to be welcoming back This is Tomorrow to Exhibition Park so music fans can enjoy three days of fantastic live acts in this special city centre location.

This is Tomorrow forms part of Urban Green Newcastle’s year-long programme of events; helping bring communities together so they can discover our city’s amazing parks and green spaces.

Events are an important part of securing the future of our parks and allotments too. The income we make from hosting This is Tomorrow in Exhibition Park will be reinvested across all the green spaces we manage so they continue to be vibrant, exciting, safe and welcoming places for people to visit and enjoy.”

This Is Tomorrow Festival is swiftly becoming the North East’s go-to live music event and is determined to become a regular in the national summer festival calendar.

Last year, it received critical acclaim for its unrivaled and impassioned Geordie atmosphere, with a little help from the acts which included Foals, Noel Gallagher, Stereophonics, The Vaccines, Johnny Marr and a certain Scottish maverick going by the name of Lewis Capaldi.

This Is Tomorrow has also made a point of giving the North East’s best new acts a platform to play the festival. In 2019 local acts at This Is Tomorrow also included The Pale White, The Old Pink House, Groundculture, FEVA, Baltic, Hivemind, PLAZA and Vandebilt.

Early Bird Tickets go on on sale Friday 25th October at 10:00 am and the public are advised to buy early to avoid disappointment.
