It’s been a long while since Vintage Trouble first released their debut album, ‘The Bomb Shelter Sessions’ back in 2011. Since then however, they have not taken their foot off the pedal. Last year they supported legendary band, The Who, on their ‘Quadrophenia And More’ arena tour; consequently gaining them a growing fan base in the UK. After what seemed to be a lull in recorded releases during this period, Vintage Trouble are back with a fantastic new single.
‘Strike Your Light’ surfaced at the end of January, leading us all to think that this will build up to a 2nd album later this year. A blues ridden track, possessing that soulful flair you hear on any Vintage Trouble track and of course lead singer Ty Taylor’s distinctive Motown vibe, ‘Strike Your Light’ is one to be turned up to full volume. Taylor’s vocals once again hit you immediately; for those who have not yet heard him, his voice is only describable as James Brown with added energy (if that’s possible).
Thoroughly beat filled and as up tempo as you can get, there is no point in this song where energy levels drop or filter away. Something that could be classed as a Trouble trait is the way that they can capture a listener from the first note and not let them go until the last. It happens with all of their songs, including ‘Strike Your Light’ – once you hear it, it has to be put on repeat.
