Tracks Of The Week, 01.06.15

Since meeting in an LA shopping mall a few years back, Charles Mahoney and Sarah Negahdari have been creating unique and catchy power-pop together. Having released two albums, Happy Hollows are now a fully fledged trio with added guitarist, Matthew Fry, and are set to cast you under their spell with their latest single.

‘Astrid’ is a wonderfully ethereal offering that boasts Negahdari’s powerful Chrissie Hynde-esque vocals, oozing cinematic grandeur and cosmic sparkle. Recorded at Sunset Sound with Lewis Pesacov (Best Coast), and mixed in London by Gareth Jones (Interpol, Depeche Mode), this is an empowering slice of alt-pop that will leave your ears hungry for more.

‘Astrid’ is out now, and you can catch Happy Hollows live at one of their upcoming UK dates:

Thursday 4 June: The Loft House, Nottingham
Friday 5 June: The Dog & Parrot, Newcastle
Saturday 6 June: The Castle, Manchester
Sunday 7 June: 13th Note, Glasgow
Tuesday 9 June: The Finsbury, London

Following their fantastic cover of ‘All My Lovin’, Madrid trio, Diego Garcia, Alex De Lucas and Larry Balboa – aka The Parrots – are back with another energy-fuelled and riotous offering.

Taken from their forthcoming debut EP, ‘White Fang’ is soaked in raucous spirit and an infectious youthful vigour. Bursting with classic garage-rock chaos, reminiscent of the likes of The Vines or The (legendary) Sonics, ‘White Fang’ is filled with catchy riffs and jangly, crazed melodies and vehement vocals: a perfect, dirty, slice of lo-fi rock.

Weed For The Parrots is out 22 June via Luv Luv Luv Records.

Ahead of the release of their debut album, EZTV are currently sharing their upbeat new single.

‘Trampoline’ flows with chilled out, sunny melodies and luscious, honey-sweet vocals. So, all you need to do is let the joyous, Beach Boys-meets-Death Cab For Cutie vibes wash over you and dream of days filled with sun, sea and sand.

EZTV’s debut album, Calling Out, is set for release 10 July via Captured Tracks.

Self-proclaimed ‘Space-punk’ pioneers, CuT, have recently been receiving plenty of acclaim and airplay, including being dubbed “the best live band I’ve seen in years” by 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq. Following the catchy, uptempo ‘Page 59’, CuT are now back with the release of ‘This Way That Way/Let It All Out’.

Managed by former Blur manager, Andy Ross, CuT blast out their unique indie-punk, filled with fuzzy, angst-driven riffs and a refreshing, raucous energy.

‘This Way That Way/Let It All Out’ is released 15 June on Ra-Ra Rok Records. Catch hot-headed rockers, CuT, live:

JUN 12/14: Isle Of Wight Festival, Jack Rocks Stage
JUN 26: Oporto All Dayer, Leeds
JUN 27: The Rocking Chair, Sheffield
