Tracks Of The Week, 23.10.15

Taken from her upcoming EP, ‘Wasted’ is the new single from Charlotte Carpenter. Having received acclaim from the likes of Lauren Laverne and Huw Stephens, and supported Marika Hackman live, Carpenter reminds one of a young KT Tunstall, but with a much grittier edge.

‘Wasted’ is a unique slice of bluesy rock, juxtaposing Carpenter’s beautifully smooth vocals with fantastically raw, rocking riffs and stupendous slide guitar skills. Accompanied by a video that highlights the inspiration behind the song (“I wanted the video to show the aftermath of a situation where someone had been taken advantage of and how that can slowly make you feel like you’re losing your mind”), ‘Wasted’ will hit you with all the energy and emotion you could hope for.

‘Wasted’ is taken from Charlotte Carpenter’s upcoming EP, The Fault Line, out 13 November via Let It Go Records.

Ethereal Brighton quintet Written In Waters have now shared a new track, ‘…And The Things We Bury’.

With the incredible, operatic vocals of Beth Cannon (known for her work with Nordic Giants and Calico), ‘… And The Things We Bury’ is a haunting offering filled with an overwhelming emotive power. Amalgamating charming fragile melodies with the intensity of Cannon’s soulful vocals, it flows with a potent, dark beauty.

LA band Tokyo Taboo have been blasting out raucous sounds since 2013, and have since been gaining recognition for their incredible live shows and charisma.

New Track ‘Bubbilicious’ is an energy-fuelled, pop-rock anthem filled with a defiant and fist-clenching power. Combining this riotous charisma with a honey-sweet poppiness reminiscent of the almighty Gwen Stefani, this track will have you bouncing off the walls, high from the sugar rush of all its sweet ‘Bubbilicious’ goodness!

Tokyo Taboo’s upcoming EP Leech is out 13 November.

Following their critically acclaimed debut EP, New York band Imaginary People are set to release their debut, full-length album next month.

Latest single ‘She Is’ instantly grabs your attention with Dylan Von Wagner’s fervent, angst-driven vocals. Alongside unrelenting, raw guitars, a racing intensity and almost eerie-sounding melodies, Von Wagner’s deep languid drawl oozes a welcome vibrato that’ll suck you in and entwine you with the track’s dark energy. The perfect soundtrack to all those Halloween parties next week!

Dead Letterbox, the upcoming album from Imaginary People, is out 20 November via Five Five Diamonds.
