Unsigned Act Of The Week: Made Violent

Made Violent – the criminally underexposed band I discovered by chance when they followed me on Twitter – are back with their third single, and ‘Dirty’ may just be their best yet. With an untamed vivacity comparable to that of stateside cousins The Orwells (who they support later this month), Made Violent are three fearless lads from Buffalo, New York state, determined to make a hefty impact.

‘Dirty’ follows ‘Wasted Days’ and ‘Inside Out’ as the band’s third release and, as the title suggests, there’s no polish here. This is raw, unadulterated, ear-worming, guitar-driven carnage. Whilst ‘Wasted Days’ exhibited elements of influence from The Strokes, and ‘Inside Out’ channelled Cage The Elephant, ‘Dirty’ sees inspiration from both these sources – and more – amalgamate into a turbo-charged two minute shot of exhilarating DIY rock ‘n’ roll.

The energy coursing unrelentingly through every vein of this song is the hallmark upon which Made Violent seem to pride themselves. Even the longest of their three tracks to date abruptly ends at the three minute mark and such haste is sure to leave listener after listener positively exhausted. As they are yet to play on British shores, I can only imagine how frenetic their lives shows must be.

Lines such as ‘I can’t even make it down the street without stumbling on my feet…I’m feeling dirty tonight’ capture the lyrical essence of ‘Dirty’ perfectly. Throw in the odd reference to girls and the like and you’ve got yourself another anthem of carefree youthful frolicking to add to an endless list. These guys might just make a few more of them too…
