Unsigned Act Of The Week: Paddy Clegg

Paddy Clegg – a 17-year-old singer songwriter from Liverpool – has recently been taking the local music scene by storm with the newly released 4 track EP Head in the Clouds.

Prior to October 2013, Paddy had been more interested in drumming than going solo, but after picking up a guitar he started writing for himself and playing gigs across the city which have helped him get to where he is today. Talk started when he burst into the music scene with catchy single ‘Back to the Start’, which has been picked up by local radio stations across Merseyside and Manchester.

Whilst it certainly isn’t the first time, and won’t be the last, that you get a teenage artist sounding rather similar to Jake Bugg wanting to make it in the industry, what I’ve found that sets Paddy aside is his retro yet unique sound, as well as his likeability. From listening to his EP, it becomes apparent that these songs obviously mean a lot to Clegg, and will continue to play back in your mind, making you want to listen to them again and again – something many artists fail to do. He’s already been able to draw his audience in with a 4 song EP under his belt and, whilst he’s left his standards high with his debut, I for one don’t think he’s likely to disappoint!  Head in the Clouds is full of passion and aspiration from the young artist, and is something I can see captivating a room full of screaming teenage girls in an instant.

It’s safe to say Paddy Clegg will have conquered Liverpool soon enough and you’ll be hearing about him across the country in no time. There’s a real passion to his songs that is hard to miss and, in Head in the Clouds, each song tells a different story, all tied together by his soothing vocals and talented musicianship: a great start for the 17 year old with a promising future ahead of him.

Head In The Clouds is available on iTunes and you can hear a preview of Paddy’s Soundcloud page.
