Unsigned City: Leeds

Promoting unsigned artists is something we at Gigslutz feel extremely passionate about, with our regular ‘Unsigned Act Of The Week’ and ‘Ones To Watch’ features, as well as a wealth of reviews and premieres. Celebrating new artists, or even people who’ve been making music for years but not got the recognition they deserve, is something we pride ourselves on and feel is an integral part of what the world of music should be about. We therefore thought it would be a great idea to focus on the array of unsigned artists in different cities around the country and spread the word about the huge amount of talent that is out there!

This week, Oliver takes his pick of the Leeds scene…

Aleatrie: A hull based four piece band that formed in January 2007. Their fan base has grown both in size and diversity over the years and have performed in and around the Hull / Leeds area. They have recorded demos in Africa Studios and have received airtime on conventional and internet radio stations. They have a very grunge rock sound and I highly recommend them to anyone who is a fan of the more darker side of rock music.

MonMon: A Leeds based melodic trio that balance intelligent lyrics to influential rhythms and glistening garage style rock. After two years of intense gigging they have formed a tight knit sound that has derived from their ability to craft rifts over a bass heavy backbeat. It forms in a way which is subtle, but soaked with power. CLINT BOON, XFM RADIO: “Total quality – check these out live”

RAWSCHAC: A five piece band based in Leeds. About to release a long awaited mixtape. They first came about as a Merseyside live act, playing some of Liverpool’s most well known venues, then they relocated to Yorkshire. They are influenced by rock, soul, RnB, Hip Hop, garage and funk music, resulting in a grungy, soulful hip hop sound. The band has had online success and have played across the UK.

Delirium Theory: A band that has worked to acquire a reputation on the Yorkshire music scene as a band who move between genres, producing some of the most technically diverse and yet readily accessible hard rock songs of the past couple of years. A blend of funk, hard rock and a unique live presence has culminated in a very high demand for the band. New songs in production and many more shows to be announced in the near future…

Elephants on Acid: A psychedelic, blues-powered, garage-rock sounding band whose sound, to quote the band, “immediately induces the effect of the Vodka”, and an overwhelming sense of well-being for any listener.
