East Kilbride’s ‘Honeyvale’ today release an acoustic version of their single ‘Mercurial’. Watch them perform it live below:
The original version of ‘Mercurial’, released earlier this year, is a raucous 2 minutes 50 seconds of classic indie-pop; a tale of love, dancefloors and stolen lighters, told in the dappled light of an early Sunday morning, when optimism prevails and the hangover hasn’t yet kicked in. This gives the same song a melancholic twist, showcasing the strength of front man Connor McGlave’s signature vocal.
‘Mercurial’ is taken from Honeyvale’s forthcoming debut EP, ‘Polo Mint City’ (a local nickname for East Kilbride), which is set for release in early 2020. The EP was produced and mixed by fellow Scot, Darren Lawson (Spiritualized, Alfie Templeman, White Lies).
There’s nothing contrived or try-hard about Honeyvale. The sound of four lifelong friends growing up together and making a racket, honing their song writing into something that swaggers between the slick, accomplished pop of bands like The Walkmen, the youthful social commentary of Sam Fender or the unabashed melodicism of Stereophonics and latter-era Kings of Leon; they’re a band with stadium ambitions grinding their way up from the bottom.
The band play Glasgow’s King Tuts on the 27th December, supporting The Rising Souls.
