WATCH: M.I.A. – ‘Goals’

In the lead-up to M.I.A.’s Meltdown festival at London’s Southbank Centre, launching this Friday (9-18 June), M.I.A. today releases a new track that she calls a “love letter to her fans”. ‘Goals’, is produced by Portuguese musician and producer Branko, who worked with M.I.A. on her most recent album AIM, released last year.

The new video features the work of photographer and artist Jaime Martinez, signed to M.I.A.’s label N.E.E.T., and displays a selection of GIFs taken of the musician and her fans throughout her recent album tours. This video will be displayed as an art piece throughout Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall public spaces during M.I.A.’s Meltdown festival.

This year Meltdown festival brings together emerging and established artists from across the world to create a fusion of global culture which features performances from artists M.I.A., Soulwax, Giggs, Young Fathers, Crystal Castles, Young M.A, Father, Mykki Blanco, MHD, Princess Nokia, JD Samson, Yung Lean, Afrikan Boy, I Wayne, Dexta Daps, Tommy Genesis and Fakear. The festival also showcases art, talks, debates and free outdoor gigs and parties.

Launched 25 years ago, the festival is famed for bringing to life the world of its curator, and counts Patti Smith, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, David Byrne, Ray Davies, Morrissey and Ornette Coleman amongst those that have held the position.
