WATCH: The LaFontaines share hard-hitting new video ‘Switch Out The Light’

The LaFontaines have shared their new single, ‘Switch Out The Light’, the latest track to be taken from their new album Junior, which was released earlier this month and went straight into the Top 40 as well as hitting the top spot on the Indie Chart.

Infectious melodies weave between hard-hitting verses from frontman Kerr Okan’s idiosyncratic flow, while the accompanying video delivers the track’s message of destroying the traits that prevent becoming a better person through an allegory in equal parts devastating and uplifting.

About the track and video, Kerr says, “With ‘Switch Out The Light’ we find ourselves assuming the role of the underdog set against a backdrop of extreme circumstances. Visually it’s the darkest video we’ve ever created but the song in contrast, is a rousing call to arms aimed to ignite the fire within the underdog.

“One by one, the protagonist turns his ‘gun’ on each individual he encounters, those same characters represent the traits he must kill to achieve the best version of himself. The parts he tries to hide away – the parts that let him down.

“The child is highly significant as ultimately we are all searching for that child like state of freedom and creation. Against all odds, the most innocent and hopeful part of the protagonist survives. This is the song I feel represents our band the most. Capturing the energy of what we do live and beating you over the head with it for three minutes and forty-nine seconds.”

Following a UK headline tour earlier this month – including a sold-out show at London’s Camden Assembly and Glasgow’s Barrowland – the band will be hitting the road again this Autumn, with 11 dates across the UK and Ireland, including shows in Dublin, Manchester, Bristol and London.

The new single follows the previously released ‘All In’, ‘Body’, and ‘Alpha’, which also comes with a seamless ‘one take’ video recorded at Park Lane Studios and sees the band performing with finesse and ease.
