Steve Meets AWOLNATION

Here at Gigslutz we are more than happy with any old boozer / changing room / bin store in which to conduct our interviews. However, it has to be said it was a nice change to be invited along to the more salubrious surroundings of the roof top terrace at the Hilton Hotel to have a quick chat with Aaron Bruno, from American sensations AWOLNATION before his gig at the Islington Garage. Check out the video below to Aaron talk about his success at Coachella, literal crowd surfing and wandering through Brighton topless….

The gig itself was top. AWOLNATION are a big thing over the pond, with a platinum selling record to their name, yet have yet to make a serious dent on our shores just yet. I don’t think this will be long though.

They are eclectic in their sound, a bit showgazey, a bit grungy, a bit electro, a bit metal, a bit pop, a bit dubstep, a bit of everything. Although this concotion sounds a horrendous car crash on paper it works brilliantly. Just ask the uber sweaty (due to the weather) kids in attendence who were loving it, despite their piss poor attempts at crowd surfing.

The majority of debut Megalithic Symphony was played, including monstor hit ‘Sail’ and the rapturous ‘Burn it Down’ and set closer ‘Knites of Shame’. Plenty of jumping up and down, plenty of thrown beer, crowd invasion from Aaron and the afromentioned ‘crowd surfing’ had the punters happy.

You certainly couldn’t pigeon hole AWOLNATION, and I’m not going to spend hours trying to do so, so I say just buy the album, or keep an eye out for future dates and go see them live and see what the fuss is about in America, and what the fuss is about to be here…

Megalithic Symphony is available now on I Tunes
