ALBUM: Fearless Vampire Killers ‘Bruises’

Rating:

Fearless Vampire Killers mini-album Bruises is a record for kids with black nails, sweeping fringes, and a love of the mosh. Their delightfully violent mix of “death-pop” will please fans of 30 Seconds To Mars and You Me At Six, whilst proving an interesting enough listen for those who dabble in the “emo” genre from time to time.

‘Feel Alive’ opens the 6 track release and will wake up any daydreamers who may have been expecting a Twilight inspired, vampy, romantic mess. Fearless Vampire Killers comfortably thrash their way through three and a half minutes of energetic guitar and powerful drums here, and it’s hard not to drink down their “antidote to everything predictable and mundane”.

‘Stepping Stones’ and ‘Keep Smiling’ have anthemic qualities, but ‘Regret’ is an anthem of pure, primal guilt. Listeners will be left consumed by indecision, but the hymn-like opening and subsequent drop on following song ‘Like Bruises’ provides the aforementioned antidote to this feeling of unease. ‘Aging Love’ closes the mini-album and extrapolates on FVK’s immortal desire to be completed by another, despite knowing this gothic dream may never materialise.

Bruises will leave its mark on those who are hungry for a fix of riffs, dramatic lyrics, and an aural parade of black. Your sweeping fringe will be left stuck to your forehead by the time you’ve finished listening.

Bruises is out now via Goremount Records.
