ALBUM: Hinds ‘Leave Me Alone’

Rating:

Prepare to be charmed and surprised by Hinds‘ new album Leave Me Alone. The warm, casual shrug-effect of the Spanish indie band’s laid-back guitar tunes will have you embracing the band’s motto: “Nuestras mierdas, nuestras reglas” (“Our shit, our rules”) as you dance along to their super fun songs.

These four girls from Madrid (previously known as Deers) are self-professed mega-fans of Mac DeMarco (me too, girls, me too), and like the Canadian indie star, Hinds are jaded but jubilant on each of Leave Me Alone‘s twelve tracks. Opener ‘Garden’ leads in to the excellently named ‘Fat Calmed Kiddos’ – “Texting me while you were drunk, yeah, whatever makes you happy…” – a lyric which will be instantly relatable to those who are well versed in the minefield of modern romance.

‘Warts’ sounds much more attractive than its title, and ‘Easy’ is just that; whilst ‘Castigadas en el Granero’ (which translates roughly as ‘Grounded In The Barn’) will get any party started. ‘Solar Gap’ is an ambiguous and endearing instrumental, which will give you time to ponder whether it’s a lack of metaphorical light that’s getting you down; or if it’s a genuine need to get outside and dose up on Vitamin D. Party track ‘San Diego’ is raucous, raw, and enjoyable and gets the momentum going again.

If you need a shortcut to shafting any bad memories of unrequited love, wrap your ears around ‘Chili Town’ & ‘And I Will Send Your Flowers Back’ – because let’s face it – flowers are a pointless gift which serve to remind us that love will inevitably decay; so you might as well get drunk with your best mates and dance away the pain! ‘Walking Home’ closes the album, and will freshen up your usual repetitive pedestrian routes at any time of the day (or night).

Is it cliché to say that Hinds sound like the soundtrack to slow-burning, boozy summer evenings which inevitably escalate in to full-blown parties? Probably, but it’s accurate; and you can look forward to being inebriated to their sound in the 2016 sunshine.

Leave Me Alone is released on 8th January via Lucky Number Music Ltd.
