Brighton’s Bitchcraft release debut compilation CD ‘Bitchcraft Vol. 1’

Brighton’s #1 Feminist collective Bitchcraft are psyched to announce the release of their debut mixtape Bitchcraft Vol. 1 (#BcVol1). The 17-track CD features a range of female musicians and artists including drummers and frontwomen, all-girl punk bands, and soloists to celebrate all kinds of musical girl power.

It’s packed full of as yet-unreleased and released material, carefully curated by Bitchcraft founder, Polly Miles. “These are bands from all across the world that we’ve had the pleasure to meet and put on in our Bitchcraft basement” says Polly. “So we thought, what better way to showcase this wealth of female talent than to bring together the best of the best?!”

The mixtape features killer tracks from the likes of LA glam rockers Death Valley Girls, the unstoppable girl gang Yassassin and solo project of Dream Wife’s Alice Go, Twin/Venus, whilst also showcasing local Brighton talent in the form of Ms Thng, Stranger Girl, Pussyliquor and Clever Thing’s Daisy Coburn to name but a few.

As unique as the music it holds, each copy of Bitchcraft Vol. 1 is also in fact a one of a kind. “Each individual cover design is completely different, created by myself and some of the other ladies featured on the mixtape” continues Polly. “We wanted to take it back to the old school DIY ethos that underground feminist punk was born from, by burning our own CD’s and creating all our own artwork whilst getting covered in glitter glue and poster paint in the process!”

Bitchcraft Vol. 1 will be on sale at all future Bitchcraft shows, which take place on the last Friday of every month at Brighton’s Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar. All proceeds go to Brighton Women’s Shelter. Follow Bitchcraft on Facebook for more updates.
