Coed Pageant share new EP, ‘Drag’

Coed Pageant, comprised of members Bradley and Gretchen Bergstrand, originate from Urbana, Illinois and have spent the past year both living and recording in northern California. Now residing in Flagstaff, Arizona they record and produce all their music from the comfort of their own home. Their last EP, Four Seasons, was released in 2012 and they followed this up with hundreds of gig spread across the States. Their heterogeneous list of influences include the likes of: The Mountain Goats, Sufjan Stevens and the Shins, and they often find themselves compared to the likes of Yo La Tengo and Mates of the States.

Their latest EP, Drag, is currently available online or can be ordered and shipped to the UK as either cd or 12’ LP. The band’s charming melodies are easy on the ears, a cliché phrase but one that sums up Coed Pageant perfectly. I listened to this EP whilst walking through a bustling city centre this morning and found myself completely immersed in the music, swept away from all the hustle and bustle in an instant: a quality I love in music. This EP enabled an escape from the mundane realism of everyday life; the delicate harmonies and flowing melodies are capable of transporting you to places unknown – brighter, more magical places on these wet Autumn days. I highly recommend you seek out this band, immerse yourself in Drag (the EP), and also take a listen to their previous material, as it is all extremely lovely. Coed Pageant have a promising and bright future ahead of them if they continue to create such beautiful indie-folk and I, for one, hope they go far in the music industry.
