De La Soul Confirm May Manchester 02 Apollo Date with Full Live Band

The legendary hip hop trio De La Soul have confirmed that they will be heading to Manchester this summer.

Taking place at Manchester 02 Apollo on Friday 29th May 2020, the group will perform a headlining set backed by a full band, the first time this has ever happened outside of London.

This exclusive north-west date follows De La Soul’s last rousing return to Manchester, where they previously performed alongside Wu-Tang Clan and Public Enemy as part of the mammoth Gods of Rap tour in 2019.

De La Soul, is an American rap group whose debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising (1989), was one of the most influential albums in hip-hop history.

They are best known for their eclectic sampling, quirky lyrics, and their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap and alternative hip hop sub-genres.

The members are Posdnuos, Trugoy and Maseo and they first caught the attention of producer Prince Paul with a demo tape of the song ‘Plug Tunin’.

With its playful wordplay, innovative sampling, and witty skits, the band’s debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, is widely regarded as a hip-hop masterpiece.

With their colourful, neo-psychedelic collage of samples and styles, plus the Long Island trio’s low-key, clever rhymes and goofy humour, De La Soul continue to sound like nothing else in hip-hop.

Where most of their contemporaries drew directly from old-school rap, funk, or Public Enemy’s dense sonic barrage, De La Soul offer a gentler and more eclectic approach to their music, taking in not only funk and soul, but also pop, jazz, reggae, and psychedelia.

With a total of nine albums to their name – including their last record, 2016’s And the Anonymous Nobody…, and a fan base that spans the world over, the people of Manchester will get to see true legends of hip hop take to the stage for this expected sell-out show.

Tickets will go on pre-sale on 4th March 2020 at 9 am and on general sale 6th March 2020 at 9 am.
