Discovery of the Week: Bigtopp

As we all know, some of the best music around these days is underground and unsigned artists. The only downside to this is that there’s no record label to invest into our favourite new music and help them reach their goals. Luckily, it’s 2015 and the wondrous place that is the internet has found a solution to this.

PledgeMusic is a website platform for artists to connect with their fans and fellow music lovers to try and raise money to record an album/fund a tour in return for musical enrichment. One of the most exciting artists using Pledge right now to help them achieve their aims is Bigtopp. All the many members of this mega Portsmouth band managed to get the tracks for their second album recorded, only to realise their funds were diminished, and so had to ask for help.

Bigtopp produce infectiously fun and groovy ska anthems. The new album is set to be a repeat success of 2013’s Mischief. Mischief by name and mischief by nature, Mischief is 10 songs of pure brilliance and enjoyment – from the stripped-back vibes of ‘Electric Coat’, to cheeky and unpredictable single ‘A Girl Called Melody’. With their perfect mix of jazz-style drums and clunky bass, Bigtopp win you over with their exciting and lively tracks, filled with super sweet saxophone and wonderfully uplifting brass melodies.

Bigtopp now have 13 days left to make their target goal on PledgeMusic. Your donation would help them “fund the album artwork, manufacture, press, tour van, sound engineer, photographer and much much more.” With this you also receive a CD copy of their new album, plus other extras, and 10% of any money raised after the goal will be donated to Disability Snowsport UK.

Despite most people thinking music is free nowadays, it still costs to make it, so help out (and be treated to some awesome tunes!) by donating here.
