Discovery Of The Week: MDNGHT

MDNGHT are Manchester’s answer to Years & Years, and we all know Manchester does everything better than London (that’s simply my bias talking, I still love you Years & Years). Currently signed to Manchester’s MUK Records and branding themselves as ‘live house’, MDNGHT create unique and melodic electro-pop tracks with their own distinguished and recognisable sound.

Recent single ‘Into The Night’ is a stand out track from MDNGHT – a dark, brooding intro with a building momentum produced by some bubbling synths and completed by Jordan Lewin’s incredibly soulful voice. Lewin’s vocal is unbelievable: it’s rich and full with a beautiful, yet slightly husky, tone.

I was lucky enough to catch MDNGHT live a few weeks ago supporting Until The Ribbon Breaks and I can confirm they’re just as astonishing live. ‘Into The Night’ is an underrated track to say the least. MDNGHT are starting to receive some recognition within the industry from people such as Huw Stephens – but, for a band with such mainstream potential, I’m genuinely confused as to why more people aren’t joining the hype.

There’s already an array of great tracks already in MDNGHT’s holster:‘Breeze’ is a poppy and light-hearted short song, it’s the soundtrack of underground pool parties (if that’s even a thing), similarly ‘Will Lead You On’ is a catchy and funky song with a killer hook, and ‘Give Your Love’ is a pop sensation with slick drums and vocal layering. There’s a fresh and exciting aura that surrounds all the tracks I’ve heard by the 4 piece, a glimmering ray of hope that these guys could go really far.
