Discovery Of The Week: The Microdance

The debut single from The Microdance ‘Making Plans For The End’ is a dramatically ethereal yet spritely track with driving guitar leads and atmospheric synths. Alex Keevill’s gruff, intrusive vocal – that wouldn’t be misplaced on a heavy metal track – coupled with Nicole Florentino’s lusciously smooth backing vocal is a match made in heaven.

The Microdance’s combination of elements from almost every genre imaginable makes ‘Making Plans For The End’ an incredibly progressive and impressive track for a band’s debut.

Despite being based in the UK, Londoners The Microdance took the 5000 mile journey to LA to record their debut album New Wave Of Hope. In addition to being a bold album title, it is a remarkably fitting description for this band of blissful alt-rock angels.

Immersing and inspiring themselves with all possible music, The Microdance have created a unique sound to take them to the top. Plus, New Wave Of Hope features guest appearances from Nicole Florentino (Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt) on vocals and Eric Gardner (Morrissey, Iggy Pop, Tegan & Sara) on drums.

It’s a remarkable feat for such a new band, and I predict The Microdance will continue to defy genre and career conventions for the foreseeable future.

Making Plans For The End is released via Superlust Recordings on September 18.
