Discovery of the Week: Space Captain

New York seems to be the place to be at the moment. Its legendary music scene is ever producing fantastic new talent, whether it’s fuzz rock or jazz-infused soul. And it’s the latter that has been dazzling my eardrums this week…

Space Captain’s contemporary soul-pop is a wonderful combination of the challenging and unpredictable, whilst still being easy to digest. Varied song structures and unique instrumental combinations make them an exciting rarity in the current musical climate.

Brand new track ‘Two’ sees the band continue this path of refreshing and wonderful music. Clean cut drums, dreamy guitars and sweet-like-honey vocals begin the track, reminiscent of your standard, but lovely, modern soul track.

As the drums, clicks and backing vocals increase in volume and intensity, the synths smash in for a whirlwind of psychedelic sound. Each moment of this track is a pleasant surprise, something I don’t hear often enough.

‘Two’ is released 4 December via Tru Thoughts and is available as a free download via Bandcamp.
