Discovery Of The Week: Twin Hidden

Twin Hidden. Are they twins? Are they hiding? Nope. But are they bloody brilliant at making fresh and intricate indie pop? YOU BETCHA. And that’s what matters here.

Matthew Shribman and Sam Lea had possibly the most unbelievable break into the music industry… The two have been friends since childhood, but late last year they found a lost dog. After returning it the owner, they were invited to play a local talent show which Keith Allen was playing and hosting. He convinced them to play a full set and then booked them for Glastonbury. Yes, the story sounds like random sentences I’ve picked out of separate books and placed together; but that’s actually what happened.

After the release of previous single, ‘Join Hands’, in December last year, the announcement of a new single is an exciting one to say the least. ‘Join Hands’ is a percussive-based exhilarating track, full of harsh electronic drum clatters contrasting with beautiful piano melodies. Twin Hidden like to mix it up and have a jumble around with sounds that don’t usually feature together, yet they fully prosper in making it work. ‘A Berry Bursts’ ultimately proves Twin Hidden’s talent, with its lyrics full of torment and trouble yet melody bursting with passion and delight. But again, it totally works. This is of course executed via Shribman’s perfectly articulated lyrics in his unique and smooth tone “I’ve decided to be yours a berry bursts in every moment of your voice”.

‘A Berry Bursts’ is out 20 June, and you can check out Twin Hidden on Soundcloud.
