EP: H1987 – ‘LUEUR’

Elusive electronic artist H1987 is back with an incredible follow-up to previous release Dreamlike, and it’s another intense collection of intriguing, trance-inducing songs from this prolific French producer. LUEUR hosts seven new tracks, and – as with Dreamlike – its song titles have been substituted for roman numerals, allowing listeners the freedom to extrapolate on their own mood whilst listening to the record.

Opening track ‘I’ is three minutes of cinematic, moody electronica; the power of which is enhanced by the absence of lyrics. As with Dreamlike, vocals are always secondary elements on H1987’s songs, and the instrumentals on LUEUR are impressive and diverse. The second track hosts trip-hop style percussion and idiosyncratic synth sounds which play out in perfect unison for just under four minutes. It blends seamlessly in to ‘III’ which is a subtle, yet richly echoic track.

Track four is a breath of fresh air; airy vocals and electronic riffs make for effortless listening, and the same can be said for ‘V’ and ‘VI’ which follow it. The final track is a slow-building effort, with it’s blend of hopeful keyboard sounds and more echoic synths. The calm, poetic nature of H1987’s new EP could provide the perfect score for a moment of intense personal clarity, the beginnings of an unconventional romance, or any other poignant life experience. There’s something magnetic about the sounds on LUEUR, and if you’re a fan of ambient electronic music; you should download it immediately.

LUEUR is available as a free download on Bandcamp now.
