EP Premiere: The Spinning Lamps – ‘Searching For The Strawberry Moon’

Following the release of their debut album last year, The Spinning Lamps are back with a brand new offering. Recorded live at Funkhaus studios in Berlin with local producers Federico Lenzi and Lukas Hamm, Searching For The Strawberry Moon showcases the band’s uplifting nostalgia-tinged sound perfectly.

Opening with the whirring soundscape of ‘It Won’t Be Long’, The Spinning lamps deliver lush vocal harmonies alongside a distinct ’60s-inspired hazy wave of psychedelia. With each track built around the hum of Coco Ramona’s Vermona organ, the EP continues with the sunny, fairground vibes of ‘Strawberry Moon’; with shades of the likes of Jefferson Airplane, its jangly melodies and soaring sense of joy create the perfect accompaniment for the upcoming summer months.

Next track ‘Into The Sun’ flows with alluring vocal harmonies and catchy, folky refrains, whilst ‘Mr Octopus’ is propelled by gentle, lilting melodies and sweeping strings courtesy of guest violinist Judith Anna. Each offering makes for a truly uplifting slice of sunshine to brighten even the dullest of days.

As the dreamy, psychedelic splendour continues, you can’t help but be drawn into this EP’s dreamy sonic soundscape. And, as it closes (appropriately) with the reflective, cinematic grandeur of ‘Say Goodbye’, you’re left with a smile on your face and a spring in your step. This vibrant collection of tracks is a much-needed dose of joy in these somewhat troubling times.

So, lay back and get lost in the sun-filled haze of Searching For The Strawberry Moon.
