EP: URF – ‘For The Ride’

Following the release of their debut single ‘Athena’ last year, URF last week shared For The Ride, an EP that faultlessly encapsulates what URF have to offer.

Having met amidst the bustling Manchester music scene, inspired by a sea of creativity, but also no doubt by a desire to stand out from the crowd, URF have since crafted a sound that does just that. For The Ride, in just three tracks, delves into URF’s psychedelic world – a world influenced by everyone from Suede and Patti Smith to Slowdive, The Cure, Mogwai, The Black Angels and The Brian
Jonestown Massacre. Influenced being the operative word, of course, for between the brooding opener ‘Say To Mind’ and title track ‘For The Ride,’ via the incredibly shoegazy ‘Nightdriving’ URF establish a sound that is undeniably theirs.

The EP seamlessly explores real life – and the cynicism and relationships that come with it – while also exporting the listener to somewhere in the ether. It blurs the lines between reality and URF’s own ethereal world, and we’re happy to be lost somewhere in between.

For The Ride is out now. URF play Night People, Manchester on 8 June.
