A brief history: At the tender age of 16, Lee Denny’s parents left him in the house while they went on holiday with one strict instruction – not to have a house party. Thinking outside the box, Lee decided the only way around this was to instead hold a festival in the back garden, so got his mates together, a lineup, PA and bar and they were on their way. Now back for it’s tenth year, LeeFest has grown in popularity and prides itself on investing and supporting in new music and creative endeavours, having given many well-known artists a break in their early careers, such as London Grammar, Jack Garratt, and Years & Years, and picking up well-earned ‘Best Grassroots Festival’ and ‘Best Festival’ awards along the way.

How to get there: Trains run from Central London and anywhere in Kent, Surrey and Sussex

Gigslutz Top Tip: It’s not all about the music at this festival, as there is equal emphasis on the arts and creative minds – so don’t forget to check out everything else going on! Head down to Mermaids Lagoon to indulge in a massage, take a dip in the hot tub, or check out some indie cinema, or go wild at Skull Rock with glitter wrestling before checking out the plethora of cabaret, burlesque and comedy acts on offer.

Memorable moments: Katy B actually played at one of the first LeeFests when it was still in his back-garden!

Did you know: LeeFest is hugely into keeping everything as environmentally friendly as possible, so much so that they’ve outlawed plastic cups and their shuttle busses are powered by used chip fat – how’s that for going green?!
