Doing their part to dispel any post-festival blues that may have sunk in since summer, Liverpool Music Week returns for the latter part of October with an eclectic round-up of the best in live talent from Merseyside and beyond. 2014 saw stellar performances from Mogwai, Caribou, Chvrches, Wild Beasts, Forest Swords and Hookworms for the 10th edition of LMW. It set the standard very high for this year’s 9-day spree, which seems to have met the hype and then some.

Officially kicking-off with The Kazimier Opening Party on the 23rd Oct, acclaimed ‘queen of tech-topia’ Holly Herndon will headline the night alongside avant-pop provocateurs Micachu & The Shapes and Liverpool’s own, Outfit, who’s second LP ‘Slowness’ dropped earlier this year. Also set to perform that evening, off the back of the release of his eighth record, LMW presents Sheffield crooner Richard Hawley at The Dome.

Partnering with Liverpool Irish Festival, LMW will host Stealing Sheep x Immix Ensemble at The Bluecoat on the 25th October, with live dance performance by Fearghus Ó Conchúir & Aoife McAtamney. Rightfully earning their name as serial collaborators after their performance at the David Lynch Barbican tribute and their popular hometown Mythopoeia events, this unique meeting should again be nothing less than spectacular. We hope to see a bit of this thrown into the mix:

Making the most of its final days, The Kazimier will play host to LA’s raw noise-rockers Health and garage-pop duo Best Coast on the 25th and 30th October. Whilst Gigslutz are obviously rather excited about the whole event in general, we are struggling to keep shtum about two shows in particular.

First off, Godspeed You! Black Emperor will be taking to the stage at Camp & Furnace on the 26th October for their first live date in Liverpool. If anything could match the propulsive live force of Mogwai’s 2014 Camp & Furnace headline set it’s their post-rock cohorts, Godspeed You! with their polymathic precision and experimental efforts that seem to evade pigeonholing with such ease. It’s certainly not one to be missed, which leads us nicely onto the next must-see performance. The charming setting of the Scandinavian Church will provide the intimate alcove for Josh T. Pearson’s hotly anticipated set on the 28th October. The Mute Records signee is known for penning meandering personal epics, he’s the exact model of the hat-tipped, Texas troubadour if there ever was one. Picture this, except tucked away in the intimate surroundings of the Nordic church. Bliss.

Then on the 31st October you can forget the half-assed Halloween get-up routine and instead celebrate with LMW for their Closing Party. On the verge of creating their own indie rock legacy, Deerhunter will headline the night, reeling off their outsider rock and rolling with the funkier 80s feel of new offering Fading Frontier. They will be joined by Gang Of Four as well as a distinct range of breakthrough acts like Soak and local favourites Gulf and All We Are. And whilst we are on the topic of emerging artists, LMW will also be teaming up with DIY for a ‘Breaking Out’ series of six dirt-cheap gigs. So don’t let us catch you saying there’s nothing on tonight, we expect to see you jiving down the front! Or perhaps awkwardly holding back the tears for Josh T. Pearson. Either is good.
