Gary Numan shares first single ‘My Name Is Ruin’ from upcoming album ‘Savage’

Despite regularly updating fans via his Pledge Music campaign, it’s been almost four years since Gary Numan released any new material. The Ivor Novello award-winning musician received critical acclaim for his 2013 album Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind), and if his latest single ‘My Name Is Ruin’ is anything to go by; his upcoming album Savage (Songs From A Broken World) is going to be equally as provocative.

With a duration of just over 6 minutes, ‘My Name Is Ruin’ is a “menacing industrial march” charged with Numan’s trademark innovative dark synths. The track is laced with Egyptian influence, which stems from the alarmingly relevant concept behind the new album. Set in an apocalyptic, post-global warming Earth in the not-too-distant future; Numan’s Savage pictures a world where Western and Eastern cultures have merged simply to survive. This world is void of technology, food & water, and human kindness. Donald Trump was elected President of the United States whilst Numan was writing the record; a decision which became the catalyst for the apocalyptic theme of the album.

Speaking about Savage (his 22nd studio album), Numan said: “The songs are about the things that people do in such a harsh and terrifying environment. It’s about a desperate need to survive and they do awful things in order to do so, and some are haunted by what they’ve done. That desire to be forgiven, along with some discovered remnants of an old religious book, ultimately encourages religion to resurface, and it really goes downhill from there.” Listen to ‘My Name Is Ruin’ below, and Follow Gary Numan on Facebook for more updates.
